“Some days I can sit down with only two hours until I need to be at work and knock out 30 pieces and everything is just flowing,” he said. But luck and timing were on his side in recent years as he got noticed by, and later signed a contract with, Andrews McMeel Syndication and began the process of honing his craft, stockpiling strips for later use and rearranging his life to accommodate this new responsibility. “There were times when it was hard - you can only take so much rejection,” he said with a laugh. Wilson draws the strip under the name Will Henry. Wilson, after a lifetime of drawing and doodling and reflecting on life through his cartoons, only recently “arrived” in the world of comic strips when his cartoon hit the national syndication circuit and seemingly overnight began its run in more than 100 newspapers nationwide, including the Telegram & Gazette, which began running the strip March 26. Most notably, even despite the baby who arrived only a week earlier, is the new success the “Wallace the Brave” creator is experiencing in the world of comic strips. William Wilson sits in the home he shares with his wife and newborn son, acknowledging all there is to celebrate.
